Apply your design system guidelines in Figma Make
Figma Make reads MCP servers as custom connectors. Create one pointing at UI Rules and Figma Make builds with your brand styles, rules, and component vocabulary.
Prerequisites
- A Figma account with access to Figma Make.
- Custom connectors available to you. If you do not see the option to create one, ask a Figma admin whether your organization allows them.
- A UI Rules brand with styles and rules configured.
- A connection key for the project you want to serve. Create one from Connect your AI tools on the project overview.
Create the connector
Open the connector list
Create a new Figma Make file, or open an existing one. Click the + at the bottom left of the chat box, then choose Connectors → Manage.
Start a new connector
Click Created by you, then + Create.
Name it
Step 1 of 2 asks how the connector is presented. Enter the name, and optionally upload the UI Rules logo as the icon (the Connect your AI tools dialog offers it as a download).
- Name:
UI Rules
Click Next.
Add your key
Open Advanced settings, which starts collapsed, and add the key under Additional headers. Leave the OAuth Client ID and Client secret empty.
- Name:
x-api-key - Value: your connection key
Create it
Click Create to save the connector.
The connector is ready to use with any project. For a new project, add it from the + in the chat box.
Keep your connection key private. Treat it like a password and never paste a real key into a shared file or a screenshot.
Troubleshooting
If the connector does not work or Figma Make ignores your brand, see Troubleshooting.
